We are always in need of new volunteers for our SGLA programs, particularly with AIS removal and inspecting boats at the launch during the weekdays in the summer. We also welcome volunteers to help out with our various social events especially the Winter Chill Out and the Summer Picnic. And because we are an all-volunteer board, if you are interested in exploring an opportunity to become a Director, let us know; we hold a board election every June at the SGLA annual meeting.

We need our members to volunteer as inspectors at the Gunlock Lake Launch to help with the Clean Boats Clean Waters Program. To satisfy the grant that pays for our weekend launch inspector, we need 200 volunteer hours from members. You can schedule 2-hour slots to volunteer on weekdays throughout the summer; we will train you on how to communicate with boaters. It's easy and fun and you get to meet a lot of neighbors and visitors to our lakes. Check out the SignUp page to schedule a time to volunteer at the launch in 2026.
Organized shoreline sweeps and other manual control efforts are essential for early detection and removal of small AIS infestations. We desperately need some strong, willing members to help pull AIS plans such as purple loosestrife. Please send us an email if you can volunteer - most AIS removal activities occur in late July or early August.
We are an all-volunteer board, and it's vital that we have members who are willing to serve on the board so that they can gain awareness of all SGLA's activities and work together to continue our Association's mission. Please watch for the yearly announcement listing opportunities to run for the board--directors are elected each year at our June SGLA annual meeting. We always welcome new members to our various committees: social, shoreline protection, shore sweeps/AIS, fisheries and SGLA social events. Contact us if you want to help!
