Social Activities

Community & Connection

The mission of our social committee is to facilitate social activities within the Shish-Gunlock Lake Association to promote participation in and support for SGLA.  The social committee has a “heart” for bringing people together.  We are dedicated to creating an environment that fosters friendship, networking and camaraderie within our lake communty.

Get social!

Ready to join the fun? All members are encouraged to participate.  See our 2026 Events Calendar at the bottom of this page (or download from the button above).  Contact our Social Committee Chair at roecker5@outlook.com for more information on any of our events.

Ladies & Gentlemen of the Lakes (LOTL & GOTL)

This is our primary social group focused on fun, friendship, and giving back to the community. Held monthly from May through September on the 3rd Thursday of the month, ladies and gentlemen members of SGLA meet separately at a host's home or at a local venue to socialize, potluck, or share a casual meal. It's the perfect way to meet other lake residents in a relaxed, informal setting.

Annual Summer Picnic

The highlight of the lake season! Our Annual Summer Picnic is a family-friendly tradition that brings the entire community together for food, fun, and fellowship. We serve a lunch of fried chicken and members bring a dish to share.

The 2026 SGLA Summer Picnic is Saturday, July 18 from 11 am to 2 pm at the Minocqua Sports Pavilion on Hwy 70 West.

Picnic Leads: Crystal & Len Roecker

Winter Chill Out

Just because the lake is frozen doesn't mean the fun stops. The Winter Chill Out is our annual mid-winter gathering designed to beat the cold and connect before spring arrives.

The 2026 Winter Chill Out is Saturday, February 14 from 11 am to 2 pm on the ice at the Rockwood Bay Launch on Lake Shishebogama. We serve a lunch of chili & hotdogs and feel free to bring a beverage of your choice.

Chill Out Leads: Sue & Doug Holle

Garden Club

For those who love to get their hands dirty, the Garden Club is a great way to learn, share, and beautify the community. The club is dedicated to promoting native, lake-friendly landscaping practices, including helping design and plan buffer gardens to protect water quality.
Garden Club Lead: Tracey Lust

Book Club

A relaxed and stimulating way to connect with neighbors over a shared love of reading. The Book Club selects a new title each month, ranging from best-selling fiction to non-fiction, many relevant to Wisconsin's culture and environment.
